What’s Going On With Snowbird Brown’s Health On Alaskan Bush People?

as far as reality TV goes, Alaskan Bush People doesn’t always feel very authentic. Viewers have even compared it to Discovery’s Alaska: The Last Frontier, with the latter winning out in terms of authenticity and entertainment value. But ABP doesn’t always rely on odd antics and dramatic eye makeup to attract viewers.

In fact, in season 14 of the series, the family has gotten real and raw in continuing to mourn late patriarch Billy Brown and dealing with Snowbird Brown’s shocking health issues. But because this is “reality” TV, fans have lingering questions about what’s really going on with Bird, and what later episodes in the season (or future seasons) will reveal.

Alaskan Bush People Is Focusing On Snowbird’s Health Issues

When Alaskan Bush People‘s 14th season began in the fall of 2022, the focus of the show was on one thing: the family’s return to Alaska.

As many viewers know, the Browns have lived in Washington state for some time, but ever since the passing of Billy Brown, they’ve seemed a bit restless.

Returning to the Alaskan bush is on the family’s agenda, especially for the brothers who are now married and raising families of their own. But amid the planning and trekking around Alaska, Snowbird Brown began experiencing health problems.

Viewers watched her lying in a hospital bed, saw clips of her crying in pain, and wondered what was going on and whether she would make it back to Alaska with her siblings.

Though Snowbird was eventually discharged from the hospital and shown adventuring with her siblings—all the way in Alaska—she’s still dealing with some heavy health problems.

Because of Alaskan Bush People‘s filming schedule, there’s something of a delay between real-life events and when they air on Discovery. But as of December 2022, 14 episodes had aired, and Snowbird was shown appearing reasonably healthy in the most recent few.

To date, little information has been revealed about Snowbird’s health struggles, but there are a few facts that have come from the season so far.

For one thing, it was confirmed that Snowbird did not have cancer. However, her medical team is convinced that the issues they found indicate a high chance of Snowbird developing cancer later.

Bird did have surgery to remove pre-cancerous tumors from her ovaries, which were causing her extreme pain and discomfort. She has yet to undergo further procedures and seemed to have a difficult time recovering afterward.

Footage from the Brown siblings’ trip to Alaska showed Snowbird struggling to board the family’s boat; her brother eventually rigged up a swing to lift her from the dock to the boat.

Clearly, Snowbird didn’t want to slow down to address her health problems, but Rain, for one, pushed her to take care of herself.

Because Snowbird doesn’t appear to have social media of her own, fans have watched her siblings’ pages and the official Alaskan Bush People Instagram accounts for updates and details.

A few posts featured Snowbird recovering in a hospital bed and at home; the posts are, of course, delayed in a sense because they are posted to coincide with the airing of the episodes they come from.

The confusing timeline has fans wondering whether Snowbird is okay now, or what bad news might come in the next episode. And ultimately, the question of how to proceed from here comes down to Snowbird’s personal choices—and the possibility of a hysterectomy.

As of December 2022, and the most recent Alaskan Bush People episode, Snowbird hadn’t yet made a decision about whether to undergo a hysterectomy. However, multiple episodes followed her grappling with the decision of whether she wanted to try and start a family.

Many heartfelt moments were documented as Bird talked to her mom and siblings about her late dad, and what his wishes would have been for her future.

Viewers might have lamented Snowbird’s lack of direction, though. After all, over the many seasons of Alaskan Bush People, it was clear that whatever skeletons lived in Billy Brown’s closet, the patriarch cared a great deal for his family and wanted his kids to follow in his footsteps.

That doesn’t mean, of course, that Snowbird has to give birth to biological children to have a family, or that she has to have children at all.

For now, it seems that she’s unsure of what to choose in terms of surgery and treatment, but for the time being, she is cancer free and doing her best to enjoy life.
