Days of Our Lives (DOOL) spoilers hint that it is almost that time of year when all the Horton family members who reside in Salem gather around the living room to trim their Christmas tree. Of course, it wouldn’t be the nostalgic event that fans love without pulling out those personalized ornaments commemorating past and present family members, along with those who have married into the family.
Here are some interesting facts about the annual Christmas event that holds a special place in every viewer’s heart.
Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – In The Beginning …
Seven Horton family ornaments made their first appearance in 1966 and were seen onscreen from that year until 1970.
The original seven were made for Tom Horton (MacDonald Carey), Alice Horton (Francis Reid), Bill Horton (John Martin), Addie Horton (Patricia Barry), Marie Horton (Maree Cheatham), and Tommy Horton (John Lupton).
It wasn’t until 1971 that the show began the tradition of having the Hortons come together and hang the ornaments on the tree; a beloved event that Days audiences look forward to, every festive season.
That year, Alice began making ornaments for the rest of the family, and the custom turned into a phenomenon.
DOOL Spoilers – Interesting Notes About The Horton Ornaments
As most fans are aware, only members of the Horton family and their spouses get an ornament; however, during the 2001 tree trimming episode, the daytime drama honored some of those who lost their lives during the 9/11 attacks by adding ornaments and names.
In 2015, the Smithsonian added DOOL artifacts to its national collection, which included some Orton holiday bulbs, as well as some original scripts and other props.
While these tree trimming shows generally only spotlight the Horton family and their spouses, there has been a total of 39 “guests” over the years to crash the party.
