Director Of Next Doctor Who Episode Releases PSA Every Fan Should See After Intense Speculation

Tom Kingsley, the director of the next Doctor Who episode, releases a PSA that attempts to temper fan rumors for the "Wild Blue Yonder" special.

The director of the next Doctor Who episode clarifies some fan rumors surrounding the upcoming special. After premiering the first of three Doctor Who 60th anniversary specials, titled “The Star Beast,” the next episode, “Wild Blue Yonder,” releases on December 2. The second special is directed by franchise newcomer Tom Kingsley.

Now, Kingsley puts out a PSA to Doctor Who fans about the secrecy surrounding the next episode. Taking to Twitter, the director writes that there will not be “any surprise returning actors or villains.” Kingsley maintained that this was a “promise!

Kingsley’s PSA comes after a previous post of his teased that “the plot is a TOTAL SECRET.” In his follow-up, the director clarified that this secret is being kept merely because he and showrunner Russell T Davies “thought [viewers] might find it fun to watch it without knowing what’s going to happen next.”

If Not In “Wild Blue Yonder,” Will Doctor Who Feature Other Surprise Cameos?

Doctor Who fans have been whispering online about the possibility of surprise alumni returns for “Wild Blue Yonder.” Based on recent trends, this speculation is completely justified. Doctor Who seems to be in a nostalgic era of bringing back old actors – and not only Catherine Tate and David Tennant. The Doctor Who season 13 finale, “The Power of the Doctor,” brought back Seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy alongside Sophie Aldred’s Ace.

Doctor Who season 14’s cast also brings back Bonnie Langford, who will reprise her role as Melanie Bush. Langford originated this companion role back in the 1980s, so by bringing her back, Doctor Who attempts to appeal to its older audience while still bringing in new fans as well. With all these actors’ returns, it still stands to reason that the franchise is not done with “returning actors or villains.”

Kingsley seems to confirm that any such returns will not happen in “Wild Blue Yonder.” However, nothing is certain about the third Doctor Who special, “The Giggle,” nor the upcoming seasonal special “The Church on Ruby Road.” With plot details yet unrevealed for the latter episode, Doctor Who definitely still has the chance to continue its trends and include some surprise appearances as it continues its special episodes and into season 14.
